Former NBA Star Reveals What it Would Take for Anthony Edwards to Win MVP in Upcoming NBA Season

Former NBA player Jeff Teague revealed the factor that would help the Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards to win MVP in the forthcoming NBA season. Edwards has always been one of the most confident players in the league. Known for dominating his rivals on the court, Ant-Man recently revealed that he would want to focus on defense in the 2025-26 season.

He also said that his goal would be to take the Timberwolves to the championship and win the MVP Award. Talking about the same, Jeff Teague revealed the factor that would help him clinch his first-ever MVP Trophy. Speaking on the latest episode of Jeff Teague’s podcast morning show, the 2021 champion said that Edwards needs to average more points and the Wolves need to be the number 1 team in the West for him to win the coveted title.

“I imagine him averaging around 28 to 30. He gotta be around five, six assists, but they gotta be the number one team in the West,” Teague said. “He was what, 28 last year? 28, 6 and 5. So, he gotta have 30 and be number one in the West. You got Jokic and SGA—so you got to be 30 [points] and number one. One or two in the West, he can get it.”

Ant-Man finished the last season with an average of 27.6 points per game, with 5.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals. In the MVP race, he tied for seventh alongside Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons. Ever since he joined the league in 2020, the three-time NBA All-Star has shown gradual improvement over the seasons.

Timberwolves Staff States Challenges Anthony Edwards Would Need to Overcome to Win Championship

Apart from winning the MVP honors and taking the side to championship, Anthony Edwards also wants to win Defensive Player of the Year Award. However, for this, there are a few challenges which he must overcome, according to the Wolves’ staff. According to head coach Chris Finch, the 24-year-old needs to be more consistent.

“First of all, we’ve seen the type and level of defender Ant can be. We’ve talked a lot about consistency and the consistency of habit as one of the areas of improvement, no matter what it pertains to. Ant’s got to measure up here,” Finch stated.

Apart from him, veteran guard Mike Conley said that Ant needs to take his defensive skills to another level. “The consensus is that we’re trying to win a championship. Ant, if you want to win a championship, we expect you to guard like you’re a top-five perimeter defender in the league, which we believe you are,” Colney told Edwards earlier this week.

“Jaden, myself, whoever’s out on the court, we have a job to do and we got to be consistent every single day and Ant’s at the front of that, especially on the defensive end.”

The Wolves tallied 49 wins and 33 losses last season, finishing 6th in the Western Conference. They scored 114.3 points on an average while limiting their rivals to 109.3 points per game, placing them fifth in the league.
