Wirtz’s Future in Doubt as Top Clubs Circle for the Young Star
Bayern Leverkusen man Florian Wirtz is one of the most scouted midfielders in current football. With many clubs already linked to the German midfielder, all eyes have been on the transfer news coming out from Leverkusen in recent weeks.
Wirtz helped Bayern Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title in 2023/24 as he started 26 games for them. He has also been their highest-rated player in this campaign with 20 G/A this season. Following his recent success, now the 22-year-old might’ve just hinted at wanting new opportunities as the end of the season approaches.

Wirtz is heavily linked to Manchester City since the previous season. Moreover, with the news of Kevin De Bruyne’s departure, Wirtz has emerged as the favourite among the candidates to replace him.
When asked about his future adventures and what he makes of the potential offers coming in, Florian Wirtz gave his insights in his latest interview with Sports Illustrated, saying:
“I’m lucky to have so many excellent clubs right on my doorstep and to now be able to play for one of the best clubs in Germany and Europe”.
“It’s tempting for me to leave my comfort zone at some point and experience something new. I know the football dressing rooms well enough and am convinced that I would quickly find my place anywhere”.
This could be the clear intention of the German youngster to leave Leverkusen at the end of the season. With so many clubs lining up, Xabi Alonso’s side could also make a huge profit on him. The Leverkusen academy product is currently valued at over €100 million, given his recent run in major tournaments.
Bayern Munich have also emerged as one of the potential destinations for Wirtz. With the home country club showing large interest, Wirtz could also be convinced to stay in the Bundesliga. However, the German Giants will have to empty a huge sum if they are to sign the midfielder.
Wirtz’s current contract expires in June 2027 and is valued at around €13.5 million. With the exceptional talent on display, he will surely be expected to see a decent hike in his wages following a big move over the summer should he leave.
