The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be unique in every way as the tournament that was played annually for almost 20 years will now be a mega-event, replacing the FIFA Confederations Cup in the footballing calendar. It will now be played only once in four years, and every confederation across the world has been allocated their slots, with UEFA granted the most with 12, followed by CONMEBOL with 6, and the trio of AFC, CAF, and CONCACAF have been granted 4 spots each.
OFC and the host nation have been allocated one spot each, and Inter Miami will be the beneficiary in the 2025 edition of the remodelled tournament as Lionel Messi & co. will take the field against big European clubs like Reigning champions Manchester City, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Red Bull Salzburg, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter, Juventus, Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid.
The tournament will offer Los Blancos a chance to adapt to new manager Xabi Alonso’s style of play, as legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti has departed the club and has joined the Brazilian national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have gone trophyless in the 2024-25 season, and both sides would love to get their hands on the trophy after a gruelling season.
Legacy clubs from Brazil like Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo, and Palmeiras will be joining the revamped tournament alongside the Argentine duo of River Plate and Boca Juniors to complete the sextet from CONMEBOL. AFC will be represented by Al-Hilal, Urawa Red Diamonds, Al Ain, and Ulsan HD, while Al Ahly, Wydad, Esperance de Tunis, and Mamelodi Sundowns will represent CAF.
Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Pachuca, and the winner of the play-in between Club America and Los Angeles FC will represent CONCACAF, while Inter Miami joins in as the host team. Auckland City will be the sole representative of OFC and remains a serious contender as well, ahead of the tournament.
