Preston North End and Aston Villa will play each other for the first time since 2018.
Aston Villa will be hosted by Preston North End for the FA Cup 2025 Quarterfinal. In what will be Preston’s first appearance at this stage since 1966, Paul Heckingbottom and their side are on course to change history.
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa will come with a five-game winning streak after the Champions League triumph over Club Brugge. Moreover, losing only one game of the last 10, Aston Villa will be a tough cookie to handle for Preston even at Deepdale.
Three previous fixtures between Aston Villa and Preston have ended in a draw. With one win each in their last six games, both clubs have been neck-to-neck over the past few years. The last time these two sides met at the Deepdale stadium was in 2018.

Preston North End is missing a few important players. Ali McCann, Brad Potts, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, and Ryan Ledson are just a few of those who are unable for squad selection in the FA Cup tie.
Heckingbottom addressing the team ahead of the game said:
“Everyone’s excited about it and looking forward to it. We’ve got some disappointed lads who can’t play, whether that’s through injury, suspension or being ineligible, which is frustrating for everyone, but it’s the way it goes.
“It just opens up the door and it’s a great opportunity for everyone else. It’s taken a lot for us to get to this stage in terms of a lot of players, and a lot of personnel.
The North End will also possibly see an injury boost through Milutin Osmajić as he was seen back in training. Moreover, Jordon Storey is also on his course to gain fitness and worked hard in the International break.
Predicted XI: Woodman; Brady, Bauer, Lindsay, Gibson, Storey; Frokjaer-Jensen, Whiteman; Thordarson; Riis, Keane.
Ross Barkley and Axel Disasi are anticipated to be Aston Villa’s lone absentees in Sunday’s FA Cup quarterfinal against Preston North End.
Emery at Friday afternoon’s pre-match media conference provided a fitness update:
“I think the only player not available, ruled out for tomorrow, is Barkley,” said the Villa boss.
“We are going to train now, in the afternoon, and the players joining us today, like Emi Martínez, Robin Olsen, Leon Bailey, Andrés García, how they are physically.
“Hopefully we can keep the players we have now available for the last two months.”
Ahead of the injury concerns from the International Break, Emery is predicted to rotate the team as well. Squad rotation to prevent fatigue in these intense games at the crucial stages will come in as important for the Spaniard.
Predicted XI: Martinez; Digne, Torres, Konsa, Cash; Tielemans, McGinn; Ramsey, Rogers, Asensio; Watkins.
