Home favorite Raducanu faces dangerous Sramkova challenge
Wildcard Emma Raducanu will take on Rebecca Sramkova in the round of 16 at the Queen’s Club Championships, marking their first career meeting. The 2021 US Open champion looked sharp in her opener, cruising past qualifier Cristina Bucsa in straight sets.
Sramkova, meanwhile, caused an early upset by taking down seventh seed Barbora Krejcikova with equal dominance. Both players are looking to build momentum on grass after early-round exits at the French Open, and this clash offers a key opportunity to do just that ahead of Wimbledon.
Raducanu has pieced together a modestly better season, marked by occasional deep runs but short of a breakthrough. After a string of early exits, her standout moment came in Miami, where she reached the quarterfinals before falling to Jessica Pegula in three sets. She followed that with back-to-back last-16 finishes in Rome and Strasbourg and a second-round showing at Roland Garros.
Statistically, she’s solid: 72 aces, 63% first-serve points won, 45.8% return points won, and a sharp 53.1% break point conversion, suggesting she’s taking chances well, even if consistency is still a work in progress.
Sharp, clean, clinical 😮💨

Just a few words to describe @EmmaRaducanu’s 6-1, 6-2 performance against Bucsa.#HSBCChampionships pic.twitter.com/l89Uv4fD7B
Sramkova’s season, on the other hand, has been less eventful. Her best result came in Merida, where she reached the quarterfinals before losing a tight three-setter to Emiliana Arango. Outside of that, her finishes have largely stalled in the early rounds. She also missed Stuttgart due to an elbow injury, returning in Madrid only to exit in the first round.
Her numbers are respectable: 71 aces, a 61.1% first-serve win rate, 42.6% return points won, and a 42.9% break point conversion.

Emma Raducanu and Rebecca Sramkova do not have a head-to-head yet.

This matchup pits Raducanu’s improving consistency against Sramkova’s unpredictability. The Slovak has shown she can pull off surprises, as seen in her win over Krejcikova, but Raducanu’s sharper return game and mental edge on grass, especially in front of a home crowd, tilt the scales in her favor.
Bought a last minute ticket to watch women return to playing tennis at Queens after more than 50 years. Such a fun day. Such a lovely venue. Very lucky to see TWO British wins, first Katie Boulter than 👇 Emma Raducanu (sound up) pic.twitter.com/nJYXMxlpTR
