It was a quick turnaround into the Canadian Open for World No. 33 Emma Raducanu. The 22-year-old reached the semifinal stage at the Citi DC Open last week, losing to Kalinskaya in straight sets. A former Top-10 player, Raducanu’s only title on tour happens to be the Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows. She enters this match with a 21-15 record – which includes the semis at Washington and QFs at Miami and Queen’s Club. Raducanu beat Ruse 6-2 6-4 in the Round of 128 here in Montreal.

American young gun Peyton Stearns reached the quarterfinals at the Canadian Open last year. She lost to eventual champion Jessica Pegula in straight sets. The 23-year-old has a winning rate of just over 50% in 2025. Last week in DC, Stearns was stunned by the legendary Venus Williams in straight sets, meaning that the Cincinnati-born starlet is on the verge of dropping out of the Top-40. Stearns received a bye in Round-1, owing to her seeding at the National Bank Open this year.

After a shock loss to 45-year-old Venus Williams in DC, Stearns will be looking to bounce back in Montreal. However, her job only gets harder from here. Raducanu is looking like an immovable force, striking fearlessly on both wings. The Brit has been finding immaculate depth on her groundstrokes, and her mental game has improved considerably. One of the noteworthy factors that Stearns can capitalise on, is the fact that the 22-year-old’s level often drops after 7-8 games.
