Emma Raducanu Appoints Rafael Nadal’s former coach Francis Roig ahead of US Open

Francis Roig has agreed a deal to work with Raducanu until the end of the year.

British No. 1, Emma Raducanu has made an announcement regarding the new coach. The 2021 US Open champion has appointed Francis Roig her new coach, who worked with Rafael Nadal for 18 years. Roig becomes the eighth coach of Raducanu’s career so far.

Raducanu is looking for a permanent coach since her previous coach, Nick Cavaday, stepped down in January. She was working with coach Mark Petchey informally but Petchey was juggling broadcast commitments so he couldn’t stay longer. She had a roller-coaster ride in the season. The British ace faced a third-round exit in the Wimbledon last month after losing to Aryna Sabalenka.

Roig previously worked as a part of Rafa Nadal’s coaching team for 18 years.

Will Emma Raducanu find glory with New Coach? When Will She Start Her Stint With Roig?

As per reports, Emma Raducanu went on a trial run with Francis Roig after the Wimbledon last month. The 22-year-old became the No. 1 British player in the WTA rankings. She is currently ranked No. 33 in the world.

Francis Roig has agreed a deal to work with Raducanu until the end of the year. The Spaniard worked with Nadal for 18 years as No. 2 coach to Uncle Toni. The 57-year-old most recently coached Berrettini for a year from 2022-2023. Roig is likely to start his new journey with Raducanu at Cincinnati Masters which is starting this week.

Raducanu will gear up for the final hard-court event for the US Open, which is starting from August 24. The Spanish coach has a big responsibility and upcoming Masters tournament will be a big test for him. Raducanu has showed great improvement in the the North American swing with a semifinal run in Washington and a third-round finish in Montreal.
