Mboko def. Potapova 6-2 6-4 in Round-1.
Third seed Elena Rybakina hits a major roadblock in her bid for smooth sailing at the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open on Tuesday. After winning a thrilling doubles clash alongside Emma Raducanu, Kazakhstan’s premier WTA star is set to face the talented Victoria Mboko in the women’s singles Round of 16. The winner of this match will face either Peyton Stearns/Venus Williams or Magdalena Frech in the QFs. Keep reading to know our predictions and the best odds via BetMGM.
Touted as one of the outer favourites at the Wimbledon Championships, former champion Rybakina failed to make an impact at SW19 this year. The World No. 12 has managed to acquire a solitary title in 2025 – at the Internationaux de Strasbourg in May. Apart from this, two Middle Eastern semifinals in Abu Dhabi and Dubai happened to be Rybakina’s best outings of the season. The 26-year-old has a 31-13 record ahead of the Citi DC Open.
One of the rising stars in Canadian tennis, 18-year-old Victoria Mboko is currently ranked No. 88 in the world. In June, she became just the third teenager to be ranked within the WTA Top-100. She has advanced through the qualifiers at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2025, managing to win at least one main draw match at both tournaments. A two-time junior Grand Slam runner-up in doubles, Mboko beat Anastasia Potapova in Round-1 here at the American capital.

Mboko adopted an attacking return position against Potapova, and will look to do the same on Rybakina’s second serves. She found her range on the forehand, and managed to gain depth on her groundstrokes. However, the former World No. 3 will put her on the back-foot with flat strokes of her own. It will all come down to who can execute their style of play more accurately in DC.
Prediction: Elena Rybakina in three sets.
