Second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova will face unseeded Lois Boisson in the second round of the Korea Open 2025. The Russian earned a first-round bye, while Boisson impressed early with a straight-sets win over wild card Yeon-woo Ku.

Alexandrova arrives in Seoul riding her career-high ranking of No. 11 and enjoying one of her most consistent seasons. The Russian claimed her fifth career title in Linz, edging Dayana Yastremska in three sets, and has delivered career-best fourth-round runs at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open. She also reached the final in Monterrey, falling to Diana Shnaider, with other highlights including semifinal finishes in Doha, Charleston, Stuttgart, and Libema, plus quarterfinal runs in Bad Homburg and Hamburg.

Not all weeks have been smooth, though, with early exits scattered across the year, along with withdrawals in Abu Dhabi and Rome due to injury. Still, in 58 matches she has fired 266 aces, won 69.2% of first serves, won 46% of return points, and converted 46.2% of break points.

Boisson, meanwhile, has been one of 2025’s surprise breakthroughs. The Frenchwoman shocked the tennis world at Roland Garros, becoming the first wild card in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam semifinal, taking out the likes of Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva before bowing out to Coco Gauff. She also lifted her first WTA trophy in Hamburg, defeating Anna Bondar, though consistency remains a challenge as her US Open ended in a first-round exit. Across 15 matches, Boisson has hit 60 aces, winning 69.6% of first serves, 45.3% of return points, and converting 51.6% of break points.
