Tottenham and Arsenal Set for Transfer Battle Over Eberechi Eze

Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their interest in English international Eberechi Eze, setting up another potential transfer showdown with North London rivals Arsenal.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have stepped up their pursuit following James Maddison’s ACL injury, which will keep the midfielder sidelined for much of the upcoming campaign. With Dejan Kulusevski also out injured, the club is looking for an immediate reinforcement in the creative midfield role.

Eze Price Rise at Crystal Palace

Since arriving at Crystal Palace from Queens Park Rangers in 2020, the 27-year-old has become one of the Premier League’s most dynamic attacking midfielders. Eze enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign, registering 14 goals and 12 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. His season peaked in May when he scored the decisive goal in Palace’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Eze’s consistent performances have not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal long believed to be leading the race for his signature. However, the Gunners’ transfer activity has slowed in recent weeks as they work on generating funds through player sales.

Competition in the Market

Eze previously had a £68 million release clause, but with that clause now expired, interested clubs must negotiate directly with Palace. While a move to Arsenal remains his preferred option, sources indicate the midfielder is open to joining Tottenham, who can offer Champions League football after last season’s Europa League triumph.

In addition to Eze, Tottenham are also exploring a deal for Brazilian winger Savinho. Talks have reportedly been opened with Manchester City, with a potential fee of around €70 million being discussed. For now, attention at Spurs will shift to Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain, but the transfer battle for Eze looks set to intensify in the coming weeks.
