Can Eala keep the momentum going after her recent WTA-125 success?
Top seed Alexandra Eala faces Mei Yamaguchi of Japan in the 2025 Jingshan Open WTA-125 on Thursday. This Round of 16 bout will be the first meeting between the two players on the professional circuit. Both players came through their opening round encounters in straight sets, and will be desperate to keep the winning momentum going. Let’s have a look at what BetMGM has to say about this clash and the favorite to win it.
Alexandra Eala first made headlines for her performance at the 2025 Miami Open. She reached the semifinals, and shattered all sorts of Filipino records in the process. At the age of 20, Eala has already achieved a career-high ranking of No. 56 in the world. While her overall win-loss statistic stands at 34-20 in the 2025 campaign, she is yet to win a tour-level trophy. Nonetheless, the southpaw’s maiden WTA-125 success at Guadalajara has set her up for the remainder of the season.

Mei Yamaguchi is currently ranked World No. 268, and has surpassed 200 wins as per WTA records. The 26-year-old Japanese starlet has gone 24-27 in the current season, with little success. Although she has shown rapid signs of improvement, Yamaguchi is yet to have the big burst on tour like Eala. Holding two titles on the ITF circuit, one of her major goals in 2026 will be to make her Grand Slam debut.
The head-to-head record between Alexandra Eala and Mei Yamaguchi is currently 0-0. They will face off in the WTA-125 Round of 16 in Jingshan, China. However, this will not affect their tour-level rivalry.
| Alexandra Eala | Category | Mei Yamaguchi |

| 34-20 | YTD W-L Record | 24-27 |

Eala’s angles and powerful leftie groundstrokes are often tricky to deal with, and Yamaguchi is likely to experience the same. The Japanese star lacks the firepower to keep up with Eala, and tends to take the passive route quite often. Watch out for the Filipino prodigy’s fierce backhand which she will use to open up the court and shorten the points. We are predicting a straightforward victory for the top seed.
Prediction: Alexandra Eala in straight sets.
Eala is the clear favorite to beat Yamaguchi in this match-up. The odds are tilted heavily in her favor, ahead of the Round of 16 encounter in China. According to the money line, the probability is currently 77-23 towards the Filipino star. Here are the odds for the match (as per BetMGM):
