NHL Star Drew Doughty Joins Team Canada for Upcoming International Competition

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty has officially been named to Team Canada for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off. The veteran blueliner steps in as an injury replacement for Alex Pietrangelo of the Vegas Golden Knights, who withdrew from the tournament.

At 35, Doughty boasts an illustrious international career, including two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in 2010 and 2014. He’s also no stranger to success in the NHL, with two Stanley Cup championships to his name, won with the Kings in 2012 and 2014.

Doughty himself recently overcame a significant setback, returning to action just weeks ago after recovering from a broken left ankle sustained in a September exhibition game. The injury sidelined him for 47 games, with initial projections suggesting he’d miss most of the season. Defying the odds, Doughty returned to practice in mid-January and made his on-ice comeback in late January. His injury may have kept him off Team Canada’s initial roster, but Pietrangelo’s withdrawal now gives Doughty the chance to further cement his legacy.

Since rejoining the Kings, Doughty has played six games, recording an assist, nine blocked shots, and seven hits. Though he initially struggled, posting a -4 rating in his first two games back, he has found his rhythm in recent outings. Over the last three games, Doughty has notched nine blocked shots and a +3 rating.

The Kings have leaned heavily on Doughty since his return, with the veteran averaging an impressive 26:57 of ice time per game. In a recent shootout loss to Anaheim, he logged a remarkable 31:09 on the ice. With his spot on Team Canada now secured, Doughty has yet another opportunity to showcase his resilience and elite talent on the international stage.
