Donovan Mitchell Injury Update- NBA Insider Shams Charania shared a Massive Update on Mitchell’s Injury on Pat McAfee’s Show

Eric Divakaran

The Cleveland Cavaliers are on the brink of elimination after the Pacers dominated Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semi Finals, and the Cavs simply had not answer for the red hot Pacers. The Pacers finished the first quarter of the game with a 15 point lead, and dropped 38 points in the first quarter. However, the Pacers took it a step further in the second quarter and posted 42 more points, to the Cavs 16, and they were up by 41 points after two quarters with the score of 80-39, which tied the record for the largest halftime lead.

The game was already over by the end of second quarter, and to make matters worse, Cavs star guard, Donovan Mitchell, suffered an ankle injury at halftime, and he never returned to play. The Pacers took full advantage of the fact and have taken a commanding 3-1 lead over the Cavs, and they will be looking to close out the series in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

With that said, NBA Insider Shams Charania recently went on the Pat McAfee show, and gave out the latest details on Donovan Mitchell’s injury and if he’ll be available for Game 5. Let’s find out more.

Donovan Mitchell’s Injury Update: Game-Time Decision for Game 5

On the Pat McAfee show, NBA Insider Shams Charania provided a critical update on Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell’s ankle injury, sustained during a 129-109 loss to the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals. Mitchell, who only played 20 minutes in Game 4 and scored 12 points, reaggravated a prior ankle injury, confirmed by an MRI.

He is now a game-time decision for the pivotal Game 5, with the Cavaliers trailing 3-1 in the series. Mitchell, however, has expressed a lot of optimism despite the injury, telling reporters, “I’ll be good for Tuesday,” signaling his intent to play in the must-win game.

The Cavaliers were the No.1 seed in the Eastern Conference, and dominated throughout the regular season under new head coach Kenny Atkinson. However, injuries have plagued this team in the worst time of the year, with Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, De’Andre Hunter, also missing time in this series.

Mitchell has been extremely important for the Cleveland Cavaliers as he has been dropped 40 plus points in back-to-back games in Games 2 and 3. Without Mitchell, the Cavaliers do not stand a chance to make a comeback against the Pacers, if there’s any to begin with. If the Cavs get bounced out in the second round again, there will be quite a lot of questions regarding Donovan Mitchell led teams, as this will be the fourth time that he’ll be eliminated in the second round.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
