The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead, powered by Tommy Edman and Will Smith, who were instrumental throughout the game. After Tommy Edman drove in two runs with a double in the first inning, he launched a two-run homer in the third, extending the Dodgers’ advantage to 4-1.
Smith then continued the onslaught in the fourth inning, where another two-run blast off Phil Maton pushed the Dodgers ahead 6-1.
The Dodgers pitching was not elite but they didn’t need that. They just needed to outperform the Mets’ staff, and that’s exactly what they did. Michael Kopech struggled early on, throwing 25 pitches and allowing a run in the first inning but he along with Casparius, and Banda held the Mets’ offense.
