Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Chargers: Full Hall of Fame Game Injury Report

In the lead-up to their preseason opener on Thursday, July 31 in Canton, Ohio, the Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Chargers Hall of Fame Game carries more weight than a typical exhibition. While most starters rest, both teams have released their injury reports, giving fans a glimpse at which key backups and rookies are sidelined or sidelined-to-watch. Below is a breakdown of the injury news and status updates heading into the matchup.

Lions vs. Chargers: Who’s Out?

Lions takes the bigger hit on paper, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive tackles Alim McNeill and Mekhi Wingo, along with edge rusher Levi Onwuzurike, have all been ruled out. Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and cornerback Khalil Dorsey remain on the PUP list, and offensive tackle Taylor Decker is still sidelined with an undisclosed issue.

Rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold is questionable after exiting practice early with a hamstring concern, while safety-turned-running back Sione Vaki is slowly easing back into drills after a leg injury.

For the Chargers, head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that running back Najee Harris, sidelined since early July with an eye injury, has no set timetable for return. Rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey and former first-rounder Jalen Reagor are both dealing with minor issues and are listed as questionable. Linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips will miss the game as well, while cornerbacks Cam Hart and Ja’Sir Taylor remain under watch.

With most starters expected to rest, including quarterback Justin Herbert, this game shifts the spotlight toward the backups, rookies, and special teams players who are trying to make a case for themselves. For Detroit, the defensive front and secondary rotations will be especially scrutinized, while Los Angeles will be eager to test its receiving depth and backfield options.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
