Derik Queen, who was born in December 27, 2004, in Baltimore, Maryland, he is a highly skilled and a promising basketball player coming into the NBA draft, transitioning from a high school standout at Monteverde Academy to a star freshman for the Maryland Terrapins in the Big Ten Conference. The Atlanta Hawks selected Derik Queen with the 13th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The pick was being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.

He is a former consensus five-star recruit in the 2024 class, who first gained attention at Saint Frances Academy, earning MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year honors after putting up 14 points and 8 rebounds for the season.

Derik Queen Physical Attributes

Derik Queen Height

Derik Queen is a 6-feet-10-inch forward, who can play both the Center spot and the Power Forward. While he’s typically short for a Center, he also does not have the leaping ability which raises concerns for him moving forward, as a short center with poor leaping ability will be exposed in the NBA.

Derik Queen Age

Derik Queen was born on December 27, 2004 and is 20-years-old currently. He hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and attended the University of Maryland too.

Derik Queen Weight

Derik Queen weighs 245 pounds, which is much needed playing the center spot as he will have to defend very challenging and bruising players such as Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid, who are extremely hard to guard inside the paint.

Derik Queen Vertical and Wingspan

Derik Queen’s standing reach with a 23.5 no step vertical and 28.0 maximum vertical, has raised a lot of eyebrows. As mentioned earlier, Queen is an undersized center, who is also a poor leaper, which is something he needs to work on getting into the NBA. Queen’s wingspan is listed at 7’0.5″, which should help him coming into the NBA.

According to various sources, Queen NBA player comparison is Zach Randolph, who was a force inside the paint. If Queen can play anything like Randolph, who had some of his best years with the Memphis Grizzlies, he will have a long NBA career. However, Queen will need to work on his vertical jump and athleticism to make up for the lack of size playing as a center.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
