Deion Sanders’ son made statement about his father being potential HC at the Cowboys

Natasha Bose

Deion Sanders and Cowboys rumors spark fan speculation.

Shedeur Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes’ quarterback, recently added fuel to the buzz surrounding his father, Deion Sanders, potentially taking on the Dallas Cowboys’ head coach role. While attending a Mavericks-Nuggets game in Dallas, Shedeur gave a brief yet intriguing response when asked about the possibility.

“I think it would be cool. What do you think?” he told The Dallas Morning News.

This casual remark comes amid reports that Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, reached out to Deion Sanders about the vacant coaching position following Mike McCarthy’s exit.

Deion Sanders’ connection to the Cowboys

Deion Sanders, famously known as “Coach Prime,” has ties to the Cowboys as a former Super Bowl champion. However, he remains cautious about jumping to the NFL. During an interview with ESPN, Sanders acknowledged the conversation with Jerry Jones:

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing… But I love Boulder, our team, the coaches, the student body, and the community.”

While Sanders hasn’t ruled out the move entirely, his loyalty to Colorado and his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, seems to be the determining factor.

Why Deion Sanders may hold back

Deion has made it clear that coaching his sons together is a priority. Speaking on Good Morning America, he stated:
“The only way I would consider is to coach my sons. Not son. Sons.”

This condition complicates a potential NFL transition, as the chances of both Shedeur and Shilo landing on the same team are slim.

Meanwhile, Deion continues to elevate the Buffaloes. After inheriting a team with a 1-11 record in 2022, he led them to a respectable 9-4 season in 2024.

Shedeur Sanders’ draft buzz

Shedeur Sanders is widely regarded as one of the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft. He threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in his final season, positioning Colorado as a competitive force.

Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department lists him as the No. 16 overall player and No. 2 quarterback in the draft class, just behind Cam Ward of Miami.

Shilo Sanders, a safety, also showed promise, recording 45 tackles, one forced fumble, and two passes defended in his final collegiate season.

I write about sports because, well, it brings in the big bucks! I’m not some lifelong analyst or stats guru, truth being told, you’ve probably never heard of me!—I just know how to research, write, and make things sound good. That’s the job!
Got into sports media the same way most people do: by (fortunate) accident. Started with SEO writing, took on a few sports gigs, and now here we are! I cover games, trades, player drama—whatever needs words.
Favorite part? The chaos. One day it’s a blockbuster trade, the next it’s a goat running onto the field. Never boring.
