Darwin Núñez Transfer News: Latest Updates on Liverpool Departure

Mayur Dedwal

Breaking updates on Núñez’s exit from Liverpool, new club interests, and the Reds’ striker search.

Darwin Nunez’s performance over the past two seasons with Liverpool has been a mixed bag. Since joining Benfica in 2022 for a potential £85 million, the Uruguayan striker has struggled to replicate his prolific form. Scoring 15 goals in his debut season (2022-23) but underperforming his expected goals (xG) with a notable lack of clinical finishing.

After three seasons at Merseyside. Nunez is speculated of an exit from the Premier League 2024/25 champions. Struggling to find a place in Arne Slot’s lineup, the 26-year-old was heavily linked to Napoli in recent weeks. However, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano in his latest reports has given a crucial update in Nunez’s transfer saga.

Napoli Deal Falls Through: What’s Next for Núñez?

Napoli recently informed Liverpool that the deal with Nunez is off, opting instead to sign Lorenzo Lucca. Leaving Nunez’s future uncertain, interest from Saudi Pro League clubs has emerged as a viable option, with reports suggesting they are keen to secure his services in the coming weeks.

Reporting on social media, Romano in his transfer news mentioned:

“Darwin Nuñez still plans to leave Liverpool while the Napoli deal has collapsed. Napoli have just informed Liverpool tonight that the Darwin Núñez deal can be considered off as they’ll sign Lucca.”

“Saudi Pro League clubs are showing interest in Nuñez ahead of next week while he’s still planning to leave. Liverpool want to sign a new top striker with Isak and Ekitike both options considered, so… Núñez will go.”

Teams like Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad are considering a move driven by the league’s financial power and Nunez is seen as a potential fit. Additionally, Atlético Madrid has emerged as a serious contender, with Diego Simeone reportedly admiring the striker’s physicality. Other options include AC Milan, where a move could suit Nunez’s style in Serie A, and River Plate.

Liverpool is actively exploring replacements, with Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike being considered as potential new top strikers. As pre-season approaches, the Reds face pressure to resolve Núñez’s situation, with his departure seeming increasingly likely given his struggles to meet expectations over the past two seasons.
