Darwin Nunez Reveals Why Luis Suarez Avoids Talking to Him at Times

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez opened up about his bond with Luis Suarez and how the Uruguay legend supports him during difficult moments.

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has a special bond with Uruguay teammate Luis Suarez. Recently talking to TNT Sports Mexico, he gave insights into that bond. He revealed how Suarez plays a crucial role in his career — though only during tough times.

The 25-year-old forward, who has experienced a mixed season at Anfield, explained how Suarez prefers to step in when he is struggling rather than when he is performing well.

Also read:

“Yes, we always talk. Luis always shows up when things are going badly. He doesn’t like to appear much when things are going well and that says a lot about him, about his character and quality as a person. Whenever we can, we chat a bit about football and life in general.”

Suarez enjoyed an exceptional spell at Liverpool between 2011 and 2014. He recently showed his support for Nunez after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Southampton. After Nunez scored a crucial equalizer in the match and won a penalty, Suarez posted a message of support on Instagram: “Clear goalscorer! YNWA.”

Arne Slot Praises Nunez Amid Underwhelming Season

Liverpool are at the top of the table in the Premier League, leading Arsenal by 15 points. In the midst of this, Nunez has faced challenges securing a consistent starting role. The Uruguayan has scored seven goals in the EPL this season — 11 short of what he scored last season.

Even so, in Liverpool’s recent match against Southampton, he played a key role in the Reds’ comeback. He drew praise from head coach Arne Slot for his brilliant performance. The Dutch manager had also criticized Nunez’s finishing previously following their match against Aston Villa. However, the boss acknowledged the striker’s work rate this time.

Slot said, “That is also the life of a number nine. You go from missing a chance to scoring an important goal to missing a chance again. But today, especially in the second half, you also saw the work rate he can bring to the team.”

Beyond domestic performances, Nunez has also contributed in Europe. He assisted in a crucial goal in Liverpool’s Champions League knockout match against PSG. The Reds will face the French side at home for the second leg on Tuesday.
