Dallas Defenseman Miro Heiskanen Faces Setback After Injury

Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen left last night’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights after suffering a lower-body injury. The injury occurred during a collision with Mark Stone. Stone was tripped by Roope Hintz and lost his balance, crashing into Heiskanen’s knee. Heiskanen immediately grabbed his left knee in pain and had to be helped off the ice by his teammates before heading to the locker room. He did not return to the game.

Stone was uninjured but was penalized with a two-minute minor for tripping. Stars head coach Peter DeBoer expressed frustration with the refs, questioning why the play wasn’t reviewed for a potential five-minute major penalty, although he clarified that he doesn’t believe Stone was intentionally dirty.

Heiskanen, who was named to Finland’s 4 Nations Face-Off team for the upcoming tournament, may now be uncertain for the event due to the injury. The 25-year-old remains one of the NHL’s top defensemen, consistently finishing in the top 12 for the Norris Trophy in recent seasons. Though his offensive production has dropped this year, he is still highly regarded for his two-way play.

The Stars have not yet updated Heiskanen’s status, but he is expected to undergo evaluation soon. Dallas’ next game is on Friday against Vancouver.
