Irving puts uncertainty to rest around his contract and fitness
The Dallas Mavericks are looking to move quickly and conclude their roster strategy early in the off season. Kyrie Irving, one of the Mavericks’ core stars, is closing in on a new contract extension with the franchise’s front office.
Irving missed the crucial part of the second half of the season due to an ACL injury. After the departure of Luka Doncic, retaining the veteran guard became even more critical to stabilize the Mavericks’ offense and leadership.
But his long term injury came as a huge blow to the Dallas Mavericks. His absence created a significant void in the offense, one that even Anthony Davis couldn’t completely fill during the latter half of the NBA season.

Kyrie Irving averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists with a field goal efficiency of 47.3%. He was moving into the expiration of his contract meaning he had full control with his future. He held a $43 million player option for next season but chose to decline it and pursue a long-term deal instead.
According to ESPNs Shams Charania, Irving, after declining his $43 million worth player option, is moving to sign a fresh deal. He will sign a three year deal with the Mavericks worth $119 million. This deal includes a player option in the 2027-28 season.
He is also taking a pay cut for a new contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Speculation around Irving’s future intensified amid questions about his fitness and the unresolved contract situation. However, both parties have worked together to solve it quickly.
The Dallas Mavericks are moving in the right direction when it comes to off season deals. They recently also locked up Daniel Gafford with a $60 million extension. The side is looking strong especially with Cooper Flagg’s draft pick imminent this week.
With their roster beginning to take shape, the Mavericks are positioning themselves as legitimate title contenders for the upcoming season.
