Cooper Flagg, Duke’s standout freshman forward, has declared for the 2025 NBA draft, as announced on instagram. Widely regarded as the top prospect, Flagg is the favorite to be selected No.1 overall, potentially becoming Duke’s sixth top pick and third in seven years, following Zion Williamson in 2019, and Paolo Banchero in 2022. His remarkable college season, marked by Player of the Year honors and a Wooden Award, placing him amongst some of the elite freshman like Kevin Durant, Zion Williamson, and more.

Flagg posted impressive stats averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks, 1.4 steals, on 48.1 percent shooting from the field, 38.5 percent from deep, and 84.0 percent from the free thrown line. He became the first freshman to lead his team in all major statistical category while guiding Duke to the NCAA Tournament. Flagg dropped 42 points against Notre Dame set ACC freshman record, and in Duke’s Final Four loss to Houston, Flagg made history as the first player to lead or co-lead in all major stats in a game. However, what hurt Flagg’s college basketball legacy was the missing a potential game-winner, who could have helped keep Duke’s championship hopes alive.

Cooper Flagg’s NBA Draft Declaration and Projected $62M Contract

As stated earlier, Flagg declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, and is also expected to sign a 4-year $62 million deal as the projected top pick. His draft decision was expected, despite speculations about a potential return to Duke after he expressed his fondness for his college experience. Flagg has made strategic decisions throughout his basketball career, whether it’s college or high school basketball. He joined Duke a year early, skipping his senior high school season, and now he’s a one-and-done player who has now declared for the NBA draft.

His rapid development as a ball-handler, rim protector and defender (semifinalist for Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award), scorer, has solidified his status as a spectacular talent, and has ensured his place at the top of the June 2025 draft.
