USA will face Canada at SoFi Stadium in California on Sunday.
Canada will aim for their second-ever CONCACAF Nations League medal when they face the USA at SoFi Stadium in California on Sunday. Both teams enter this third-place playoff after suffering narrow-margin semi-final defeats. Canada fell 2-0 to Mexico, while the USA conceded a stoppage-time goal in a 1-0 loss to Panama.
Jesse Marsch’s side had their chances but struggled to convert against Mexico. Whereas, a controversial non-call on a potential penalty added to their frustrations. Looking back at the records, the Canucks have historically struggled in third-place matches. Their last win came in the 2002 Gold Cup.

However, they have shown resilience this time around, with wins in their last five matches when they’ve scored. A win on Sunday would mark their first consecutive wins against the USA since the 1980s.
Whereas, the USA’s bid for a fourth straight Nations League title ended with their first-ever home defeat in the competition. Mauricio Pochettino’s team now faces the risk of losing back-to-back home games for the first time since the 2024 Copa America.
Even so, the Yanks, however, have the records in their favor going into this match. They’ve previously won both Nations League home meetings against Canada, including the final in 2023.
The USA were without key players in their semi-final loss. Folarin Balogun was sidelined with a shoulder injury, Sergino Dest continues his recovery from an ACL tear, Ricardo Pepi is recovering from a knee problem, and Johnny Cardoso remains unavailable due to a muscle issue.
Pochettino made three changes to the lineup against Panama, with Chris Richards, Tyler Adams, and Josh Sargent replacing Antonee Robinson, Mark McKenzie, and Pepi. Goalkeeper Matt Turner earned his 50th cap in the defeat. Christian Pulisic is closing in on a major milestone. He is only two goals away from Eric Wynalda in fourth place on the USA’s all-time goal-scoring list.

Richie Laryea missed the semi-final due to a hamstring issue. The coach made four changes from their previous Nations League outing against Suriname, bringing in Derek Cornelius, Alphonso Davies, Ismael Kone, and Jonathan Osorio.
They replaced Kamal Miller, Laryea, Mathieu Choiniere, and Jacob Shaffelburg. Osorio is on the verge of tying Paul Stalteri for third in all-time appearances for Canada, while Cyle Larin can equal Milan Borjan for seventh in caps.
He will also seek to match Jonathan David’s record as Canada’s all-time top scorer with his next goal. Young forward Promise David is also in contention for his first international appearance after Daniel Jebbison made his international debut, replacing Stephen Eustaquio late in their last game.
