Cody Bellinger Misses Game with Suspected Food Poisoning, Then Eats the Same Wings Again

You'll never guess what Cody Bellinger ate for dinner on Tuesday.

Yankees’ Cody Bellinger spent Monday night losing a battle with a batch of chicken wings and then decided to go back for seconds.

Cody Bellinger was scratched from the Yankees’ Tuesday lineup in Detroit after suffering from what the team suspects was a bout of food poisoning. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Bellinger was vomiting through the night and was in no shape to take the field. The likely culprit – some questionable chicken wings consumed the night before.

No other Yankees reported symptoms, according to Aaron Boone. But in a rather unexpected twist one night later, the 29-year-old posted an Instagram story later that same day, proudly showing off a fresh plate of wings with the caption: “Round 2!!”

Maybe Cody Bellinger was just testing his gastrointestinal willpower. Or maybe it’s just Belli being Belli. Either way, everyone in the Yankees fraternity would be hoping that this batch sits better because their offense has struggled to get going in the barely bearable cold of Detroit, and they would require an additional hand from Cody Bellinger in the final outing to avoid a sweep.

With Bellinger unavailable for the matinee against the Tigers, Trent Grisham slotted in for his sixth consecutive start in center field, a move that was likely on the cards regardless, as Detroit sent left-hander Tarik Skubal to the mound, who, along with the arm of Brant Hurter, shut down the Yankees offense to a 5-0 Detroit win.
