Coco Gauff vs. Mirra Andreeva Head to Head, Preview and Prediction for WTA Madrid Open 2025 Quarterfinal

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Andreeva turns 18 on Tuesday.

Yes, it’s really happening! In a possible match of the tournament contender, American No. 4 seed Coco Gauff will lock horns with 17-year-old Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva in the Madrid Open quarterfinal on Tuesday. With a combined age lesser than that of some current players, this intra-generational battle is set to entertain fans at the Spanish capital to the fullest. Who is going to come out on top and stake their claim as the leader of the young guns?

Former teen sensation Coco Gauff has seemingly hit her best form of 2025 at Madrid. The former US Open champion reached the quarterfinals in Stuttgart last week – which happened to be her best performance since the Australian Open. Yet to win a title this year, Gauff turns to the red dirt for some much needed respite. A former runner-up at Roland Garros, she will be hoping to lift the trophy this year. The 21-year-old beat Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Belinda Bencic 6-4 6-2 to enter the last eight.

Mirra Andreeva will be turning 18 on the day of her upcoming quarterfinal. After a dominant 6-1 6-4 victory over Yuliia Starodubtseva in the Round of 64, the Russian will hope for a terrific introduction to adulthood on Tuesday. Andreeva has won back to back WTA-1000s in Dubai and Indian Wells this year, before completing a semi Sunshine Double by claiming the women’s doubles trophy in Miami alongside Diana Shnaider.

Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva Head to Head Record

Coco Gauff leads the head to head against Mirra Andreeva by 2-0. Both their meetings came in 2023.

Gauff and Andreeva have not faced one another in over a year and a half. They were still aged 19 and 16 during their previous meetings, and have both come a long way since then. Interestingly, this is the first time these prodigious talents will stand across the net outside of a Grand Slam event.

Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva Madrid Open 2025 Prediction

Both Gauff and Andreeva have showcased some magnificent tennis this week, and unsurprisingly so. When it comes to defensive prowess, the American has the edge in this encounter. Andreeva will look to test Gauff’s forehand, which has looked inconsistent in the recent past. Although it is going to be a fun watch, we believe the Russian could come clutch in the important stages of the match.

Prediction: Mirra Andreeva in three sets.
