Clara Tauson vs. Eva Lys Preview, Prediction, and Betting Odds for WTA Korea Open 2025 Round of 16

Rudra Dubey

Tauson opens Korea Open campaign against rising German Lys in second round.

Third seed Clara Tauson begins her Korea Open campaign in the second round, where she faces Germany’s Eva Lys after receiving a first-round bye. Lys set up the clash by upsetting Ashlyn Kreger in straight sets. Tauson opened her season with a title in Auckland, though the final ended in anticlimax when Naomi Osaka withdrew due to injury.

Since then, the Dane’s form has been uneven. She enjoyed standout runs to the final in Dubai, the semifinals in Linz and Montreal, and the quarterfinals in Nottingham and Washington. But elsewhere, she’s struggled to build momentum, often falling before the third round. Across 51 matches this year, she’s delivered a 69.8% first-serve success rate, while winning 41.7% of return points and converting 43.7% of break points.

Lys, meanwhile, has had her share of highs and hurdles. The 23-year-old cracked the top 60 for the first time, reaching a career-high No. 55, and made headlines in Melbourne as the first-ever lucky loser to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open. A quarterfinal in La Bisbal also stands out. However, inconsistency and health challenges have weighed on her season. She withdrew from Hamburg and retired in both Cleveland and Bad Homburg due to spondyloarthritis. Still, her numbers remain competitive, with 24 aces in 28 matches, a 60% first-serve points won rate, and an impressive 53.7% break-point conversion rate.

I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
