Chop Robinson Injury Update – Linebacker Injury Remains a Mystery Despite Being ‘Nothing Serious’

Devavrat Kulkarni

Robinson will be a central figure in the Dolphins' defense this year

The Miami Dolphins will be taking on the Detroit Lions in their second preseason game of the year. Thus, during their joint practice session on Wednesday, the Dolphins’ second-year linebacker Chop Robinson was injured and had to be carted off the field.

The exact nature of the injury is still unknown at the moment, with the only details being that it is an upper-body injury, as per sources. Additionally, it is also being reported that Robinson’s injury is not a head injury, which is always good news.

The injury apparently took place during an 11-on-11 scrimmage session and caused quite a bit of panic at the time. Although Robinson was taken off the field on a cart, it seems that the injury is not as severe as it was initially thought to be.

As a matter of fact, the former Penn State Nittany Lions player even took to his Instagram account to post a message saying he is doing fine and it’s nothing serious. “I’m good yall, nothing serious.”

Even so, at this moment, there is no time frame for his return, and as per reports, the 22-year-old is likely to undergo further tests to get a better understanding of his injury. It is possible that he would not return for the remainder of the preseason, but again, it is just speculation at this point.

Robinson Predicted to Take a Big Step This Year

There is no doubt that Chop Robinson could go on to be one of the best players on this Dolphins team. Currently, Miami’s secondary is severely depleted, especially since cornerback Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Steelers.

A majority of the Dolphins’ defense will rely on its pass rush ability, and that is where Robinson comes in. The 21st overall pick from the 2024 NFL draft will have added responsibility on his shoulders, and the expectations will be high given how well he performed at the back end of his rookie season.

In the final 8 games of the 2024 season, Robinson put up excellent numbers and grew substantially in his role with the Dolphins. From week 8 till the end of the regular season, Robinson had 6 sacks, 16 tackles, six tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, and four passes defended in just a little over 55% of the snaps.

Being the critical player that he is, Robinson’s quick recovery will be of utmost importance for the AFC East team if they are to work their way back to the playoffs. Taking down the Bills in their division still looks far away, but they will need all the help they can get from their second-year linebacker.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
