Sky: In dire straits

The Sky comes into this game after a 12-point win (78-66) against the Connecticut Sun behind a triple-double by Angel Reese. Rookie Hailey Van Lith top-scored for them with 16 points (Career-high). The Sky shot 42.9% and held their opponents to 39.1% FG.

Meanwhile, they had a significant 17-8 free-throw advantage, perhaps the biggest factor in their victory. The win broke a three-game losing streak. However, all the Sky’s three wins have been against Wings and the Sun, who have the best records in the league.

They are yet to win against a team ranked tenth out of 13. The Chicago team suffered a huge blow when they lost Courtney Vandersloot to a season-ending injury a week ago.

The Sky do have strong personnel, but will need much better performance from Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and Ariel Atkins.

Washington Mystics: Spiraling after a decent start

The Mystics enter the affair after a disappointing 33-point loss (56-89) against the Atlanta Dream. Only Sonia Citron scored in double figures with just 10 points. The Mystics shot just 29.5% FG, making 3 triples on a horrid 17.5% FG.

The team also had more turnovers than assists (13-TO, 12-A) while their opponents had an excellent 4/1 A-TO ratio. The Mystics have now lost four of five games after an average 3-3 start. Their offense has been in tatters, and the defense is also relaxing as the dry spells are taking their toll.

Brittney Sykes has been the team’s most reliable player wheares rookies Kiki Irafen and Sonia Citron have huge long-term promise. Overall, the Mystics may struggle to win even 14 games like last season but have a solid foundation for the future.

Both teams have struggled to score 80 these days and lack the depth to sustain big scoring. Defensively, the Mystics have been better than the Sky for the most part,but they are losing focus due to repeated failures on offense.

At any rate, this has all the makings of a low scorer. Thus, going for “Under” can be a safe bet here.

Angel Reese O 11.5 rebounds: Reese is averaging 11.9 RPG. She pulled down 13 boards in the last game. She has grabbed 12 or more rebounds in seven games. I believe she will at least snatch 12 boards here, too, considering the low-scoring potential of the game.

Kiki Iriafen O 9.5 rebounds: Iriafen has become one of the elitist rebounders in her rookie season. However, she has grabbed fewer than 10 rebounds in six straight games. I expect her to get back in the double-digit boards domain here.

Kia Nurse O 1.5 triples: Nurse nailed 4 triples in the last game. For the season, she has made 1.4 three-pointers on 31.11% FG. I expect her to make 2 long-range shots here.
