On Thursday, August 23, the Chicago Sky (9-26) will host the Connecticut Sun (8-27) in a WNBA regular-season game.
The Sky will enter the match after an unprecedented 91-85 win against the Connecticut Sun as both Kamila Cardoso and Angel Reese stamped 20-point, 10-rebound styled double-doubles.
The win broke a painful five-game losing streak.
On the other hand, the Sun beat the Mystics 67-56, as Tina Charles put up 21 points and the Mystics shot 3/18 from deep. It was their second straight win over Washington and third win in four games.
Can the Sky acquire their second win in a row for the third time this season? Go through the predictions related to player props, total, and spread here.
Connecticut Sun
The Sun has been among the three worst teams, but their play has been impressive lately. Youngsters like Aneesah Morrow, Leila Lacan, and Saniya Rivets have stepped up to make them more competitive.
Here are some facts about the squad:
Sun Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Leila Lacan | SG: Marina Mabrey | SF: Bria Hartley | PF: Aneesah Morrow | C: Tina Charles
Key bench players: SG: Saniya Rivers, C: Olivia Nelson-Ododa, PF: Aaliyah Edwards.
Injuries/Updates: All fit and fine thus far.
Chicago Sky
The Sky has looked out-of-sync all seaosn long. They lack a pure playmaker since Courtney Vandersloot’s absence. They need more reliable Wings and guards around the strong inside core of Cardoso and Reese. Here are some facts about them:
Sky Expected Starting Lineup
SG: Ariel Atkins | SG: Rachel Banham | SF: Michaela Onyenwere | PF: Angel Reese | C: Kamilla Cardoso
Key bench players: C: Elizabeth Williams, SG: Kia Nurse, SG: Rebecca Allen, SG/SF: Sevgi Uzun.
Injuries/Updates: All fit and fine thus far.
The Sky’s offense has been one of the worst alongside the Sun. They are both scoring in the 70s regularly and struggle to go past 80.
However, Reese’s return has bolstered Sky’s offense, and they are much more likely to hit the 80-point mark. On the other hand, Marina Mabrey’s streaky struggles can hinge Sun’s prospects.
Defensively, the Sun has a better defense than the Sky. They can limit teams under 80 more than the Sky. Overall, I consider this a low scorer, given the dynamics.
Total: Under 159.5 for -110 at BetMGM
Here is an overview of my selections
| Picks | BetMGM Odds |
| Total U 159.5 | -110 |
| Spread- Sky -3.5 | -105 |
| Angel Reese O 11.5 Rebounds | TBD |
| Money Line- Sky | -160 |
Angel Reese O 11.5 Rebounds: Reese has been a strong rebounder all season long, nabbing 12.2 RPG. She has fewer than 11 in both games since her return, but I see her clasping above her season average here.
Aneesah Morrow O 7.5 Rebounds: Morrow is a brilliant rebounder who has pinned down 6.2 rebounds per game this season. She has nailed 8 or more rebounds in four of the last five games.
Kamilla Cardoso O 12.5 Points: Cardoso has had some great moments throughout the season. She is tallying 12.7 PPG, scoring 20+ in two of the last four games. I see her scoring at least 13.
Main pick: Angel Reese O 11.5 Rebounds at BetMGM
The Sky has looked confident after Reese’s comeback. They are much more decisive and aren’t afraid to make mistakes. On the other hand, the Sun are playing some of their best ball lately.
However, their road struggles can put their chances in jeopardy. Overall, I would favor the Sky to win here. They are likely to cover the spread, too.
Spread/Money Line Pick: Spread: Sky -3.5 for -105 at BetMGM
