Victor Wembanyama has dropped an average of 24.3 points per game through his nine appearances for the Spurs this season. Leading the Spurs in three statistical categories, Wembanyama has been shooting 49.7% from the field and 23.5% from the three-point range. However, Wemby has shown visible struggles in the last few games. In the most recent game against the Pelicans he scored 18 points with 18 rebounds, and three assists, on 42.1% shooting from the field and 22.2% shooting from the three-point range.
The Chicago Bulls, who have always been considered a play-in team, have shown remarkable prowess and began the season on a strong note. They won their first five games, and are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, tied with the New York Knicks with an identical record. Led by young guard Josh Giddey with an average of 21.4 points per game and 9.3 assists per game, the Bulls are sitting at 5th in pace and average a 6th fastest 13.7 seconds per offensive possession.
However, for the upcoming game, the Bulls have Giddey listed as questionable after an ankle roll. They also need guard play too as they are without Coby White, whose position has been filled by Tre Jones. White has yet to make his season debut due to a calf injury he suffered during the offseason.
The Spurs, on the other hand, are coming off a remarkable win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The game saw De’Aaron Fox debut in the season and made an impression right in his first game. He dropped 24 points, paired with three rebounds and three assists. Fox pairs well with Stephon Castle, who is averaging 18.4 ppg while shooting 49.5% from the field and 23.5% from the three-point range. The Spurs couldn’t do well last season considering the partnership between Fox and Wemby was cut short due to the latter’s injury.
Now that they both are together, and the Spurs are at full strength, we can expect a dynamic season from them. Though the second-seeded Spurs are missing their star rookie, Dylan Harper due to a calf strain. In addition to it, Wemby’s offensive struggles were quite visible in the last four games as he could manage to drop only 17 points on an average in those contests. However, the Spurs would need to come up with better ways to get him involved.
One can expect a tight contest on Monday at United Center. But, considering the overall form, and presence of players such as Fox, the Spurs are likely to come on top in the contest.
