Chelsea in Talks to Sign Man Utd Winger Alejandro Garnacho

Ritam Dey

Chelsea are in active discussions with Manchester United over a potential transfer for Alejandro Garnacho, as the 21-year-old Argentine winger appears set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

United Looking to Offload Winger Garnacho

Garnacho has reportedly been informed that he is free to find a new club, with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim believing the player is seeking a fresh challenge. The situation follows United’s disappointing end to the 2024/25 season, where Garnacho was notably told to look for a move shortly after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in May.

Despite being part of the club’s post-season tour of Asia, the winger was described as distant and appeared unhappy with his role in the squad. His absence from United’s recent three-match tour of the United States further underlines his uncertain future. He was instead instructed to train separately from the main group, along with other sidelined players including Tyrell Malacia, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford, the latter of whom has since joined Barcelona on loan.

Stamford Bridge Move Back on the Table

Garnacho had previously come close to joining Chelsea during the January transfer window, with the player reportedly confident that a deal would be struck. Although that move fell through, channels of communication between the two clubs remained open over the summer. Talks have now intensified, though no agreement on a fee has been reached yet.

Manchester United initially valued Garnacho at £60 million, a price tag that may now be subject to revision. From a financial standpoint, Garnacho represents a key asset in terms of profit and sustainability, having joined United from Atlético Madrid at the age of 16 and developed through the club’s academy system.

Uncertain Future Ahead

Amorim, while acknowledging Garnacho’s talent, is believed to have accepted that the winger no longer fits into his long-term plans. The decision to exclude him from the senior squad’s main training sessions appears to confirm the club’s intention to move him on, potentially paving the way for a permanent switch to Stamford Bridge.
