Ruud Meets Korda in Stockholm Quarterfinal Clash of Shotmakers
Second seed Casper Ruud is set to face unseeded Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals of the Stockholm Open 2025. Ruud received a first-round bye and eased past Marin Cilic in straight sets, while Korda rallied past seventh seed Alexei Popyrin and edged Kamil Majchrzak in three sets.
Ruud has enjoyed a mixed but productive season, highlighted by his maiden Masters 1000 title in Madrid, where he defeated Jack Draper in three sets. He also made the Dallas final and the quarterfinals in Barcelona, Rome, and Gstaad and the semifinals in Tokyo, losing to Carlos Alcaraz. However, his campaign has seen interruptions, a withdrawal from Acapulco due to food poisoning and a Shanghai retirement over physical issues. Statistically, he’s fired 264 aces, winning 72% of first-serve points and converting 39% of 309 break points.

Korda, meanwhile, has struggled to regain rhythm after a shin fracture and illness setbacks. The American opened his season with a final run in Adelaide, a quarterfinal in Miami, and a semifinal in Winston-Salem before illness and back issues forced consecutive retirements. He has since found form with a quarterfinal run in Tokyo, falling to Taylor Fritz. This year, Korda has delivered 269 aces with 74% first-serve points won and 41% break-point conversion on 176 opportunities.
Sebastian Korda hit 58 winners and 54 unforced errors to beat Kamil Majchrzak 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 and reach his 5th ATP QF of the year in Stockholm.

Casper Ruud leads their head-to-head 1-0 over Sebastian Korda. The two were slated to meet last year in Canada before Ruud withdrew due to illness, so that matchup didn’t count. They finally faced off earlier this season in Madrid, where Ruud prevailed in straight sets.

Korda’s shot-making and renewed confidence could trouble Ruud, but the Norwegian’s consistency and defensive depth should ultimately carry him into the semifinals.
