Casper Ruud vs. Marin Cilic Head-to-Head, Prediction and Betting Odds for ATP Stockholm Open 2025 Round of 16

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Battle of the ATP powerhouses in Stockholm.

Second seed Casper Ruud will take on former US Open winner Marin Cilic in Round-2 of the 2025 ATP Stockholm Open on Wednesday. While the Norwegian received a bye in the Round of 32, his Croatian counterpart won in straight sets to enter this round. The winner of this match-up will face either Sebastian Korda or Kamil Majchrzak in the quarterfinal stage. Today, we are going to preview this clash for you. Stay tuned as we also delve into the betting odds via BetMGM.

Casper Ruud vs Marin Cilic Match Preview

World No. 12 Casper Ruud is a three-time Grand Slam finalist, and used to be ranked as high as No. 2 in the world. The 26-year-old won the Madrid Masters in May – which happens to be his only title this year. Apart from a runner-up finish in Dallas, Ruud won just five matches across the first five tournaments of the season. After an underwhelming North American hard court swing, the Norwegian reached the semifinals in Tokyo. Currently boasting a 33-14 record for the 2025 season, Ruud’s 85% service game success rate on hard courts sets him up well in this contest.

Marin Cilic is making a gradual return to form after a poor start to the season. Having won two matches during the Middle Eastern campaign in early 2025, the Croat shifted his focus to the ATP Challenger Tour. Cilic came through qualifying to enter the main draw at Roland Garros, and followed it up with a high quality Round of 16 finish at Wimbledon. Since then however, he has attained just one win across four events. The World No. 92 has served 140 aces throughout the season – including 12 aces en route to a 7-5 6-3 win over Kjær in the Round of 32 here in Stockholm.

Casper Ruud vs Marin Cilic Head to Head Record

Ruud has a 3-0 record in the head-to-head against Cilic so far. Their last encounter was at the 2022 Roland Garros Championships, where Ruud won in four sets. Only one out of their three duels has been determined in straight sets.

Casper Ruud vs Marin Cilic ATP Stockholm Open 2025 Prediction

Considering the fact that Ruud had to retire in Shanghai last week, the focus will be on his fitness. The Norwegian has shown inconsistencies on hard courts over the years. Although Ruud possesses a compact style of play, Cilic is somebody who can outhit him on a good day. The 37-year-old relies heavily on his flat groundstrokes, and his ability to change direction and bring acute angles into the mix is second to none. Provided Ruud has to stay on course for a title charge, he will have to keep Cilic behind the baseline.

Prediction: Marin Cilic in three sets.
