Casper Ruud vs. Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head-to-Head, Preview and Prediction for the French Open 2025 Round 1

Rudra Dubey

Clash of form and farewell: Ruud and Ramos-Vinolas face off in Roland Garros opener.

World No. 8 Casper Ruud is set to face Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round of Roland Garros. Ruud arrives at Roland Garros riding high, fresh off a Madrid title and quarterfinal runs in Barcelona and  Rome.

Ramos-Vinolas, meanwhile, is nearing the end of his career, having announced his retirement plans. Ruud boasts two finals appearances here in 2022 and 2023, while the Spaniard’s best run came back in 2016, when he reached the quarterfinals.

Now, as they meet for the eighth time on the grand stage of Roland Garros, another chapter in their rivalry is set to unfold. Who takes it from here?

Casper Ruud vs. Albert Ramos-Vinolas Preview

Ruud has remained a visible presence on the ATP Tour this season, though not without inconsistency. He captured his 13th career title in Madrid, alongside quarterfinal runs in Barcelona and Rome. Earlier in the year, he reached the final at the Dallas Open, falling to Denis Shapovalov in straight sets.

But between Dallas and Barcelona, Ruud didn’t advance beyond the round of 16; that’s inconsistent. Statistically, however, Ruud’s numbers tell a stronger story: 143 aces, a 72% first-serve points won rate, and a 37% break point conversion from 193 opportunities.

In contrast, Ramos-Vinolas, a seasoned player, has struggled in 2025. The Spaniard owns four ATP singles titles, the latest from Cordoba in 2022. This season, he hasn’t progressed beyond the round of 16 at any event. Most recently, he exited in the round of 32 at the Bordeaux Challenger, falling in straight sets to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

His ATP-level stats reflect limited time on the main tour: just one ace and four break point chances, converting 25%, numbers that highlight his decline ahead of his planned retirement, plus him playing mainly on the Challenger Tour.

Casper Ruud vs. Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head-to-Head Record

Casper Ruud leads the head-to-head against Albert Ramos-Vinolas 4-3, in a rivalry that’s quietly built momentum over the years. It all began back in 2017 in Barcelona, where Ramos-Vinolas took the first win in straight sets. He followed up with two more victories, including one at Roland Garros in 2018 and another in Kitzbuhel in 2019.

But the tide began to turn in 2020. Ruud found his rhythm in the Santiago semifinals, where he changed his gear with a straight-sets win of his own. Since then, it’s been the Norwegian steadily gaining ground. In 2022, they clashed twice, first at Wimbledon, where Ruud edged out a three-set battle, and then in Gstaad, where he delivered a dominant straight-sets win, including a bagel in the second set.

That win evened the rivalry at 3-3, setting the stage for their seventh meeting at the 2024 Australian Open. Ruud left no room for doubt, dispatching Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets to take the lead in their head-to-head.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
