Carlos Alcaraz is the only Grand Slam champion in this year’s Laver Cup lineup. The 22-year-old is the outright face of men’s tennis at the moment, and seems to be on an invincible run of form. After losing in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, the World No. 1 has been on a roll. Reaching eight consecutive tour-level finals and putting up a win-loss record of 61-6 in 2025, Alcaraz is having a season of a lifetime. He defeated Jannik Sinner to lift the 2025 US Open trophy over his shoulders earlier this month.

Taylor Fritz is the headliner in terms of American men’s tennis in this generation. Currently ranked No. 5 in the world, he reached the Wimbledon semifinals in July and followed it up with a last eight finish in New York. Fritz has picked up two trophies this year so far – both on grass. He has won 43 out of 60 singles match-ups in the ongoing campaign, including a quarterfinal finish or better in six of his last eight competitions.
Carlos Alcaraz has a 3-0 record in the head-to-head against Taylor Fritz. The 2025 Laver Cup will be their second meeting this year. The American has only won a solitary set against his Spanish counterpart so far.
| Event | Round | Winner | Score |
| 2025 Wimbledon | Semifinal | Carlos Alcaraz | 6-4 5-7 6-3 7-6(6) |
| 2024 Laver Cup | Round Robin | Carlos Alcaraz | 6-2 7-5 |
| 2023 Miami | Quarterfinal | Carlos Alcaraz | 6-4 6-2 |
| Carlos Alcaraz | Category | Taylor Fritz |
| 1 | Current Ranking | 5 |
| 270-62 | Career W-L Record | 327-207 |
| 61-6 | YTD W-L Record | 43-17 |

The black hard courts at the Laver Cup have more space in terms of length and breadth outside the dimensions of the court. As a result, Alcaraz is likely to alter his court position to keep Fritz guessing. He will also add more top spin and deception to his game, ensuring that the American is always on his toes and gets into uncomfortable positions. For Fritz, the key will be to generate depth on his groundstrokes and attack the Alcaraz serve. While he was mentally on point at Wimbledon, he could not make inroads on the Spaniard’s serve.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz in three sets.
In terms of the pre-match betting market, there is a clear 80-20 tilt in favor of Carlos Alcaraz. Taylor Fritz has been given extremely low odds of 24/5, making him the underdog in this clash. Here are the odds for the match result (as per BetMGM):
