Alcaraz & Sinner set for Turin showdown to become World No. 1

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are set to fight for the year-end World No. 1 ranking at the 2025 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. The two headliners of the men’s tour have enjoyed terrific seasons this year, splitting the four Grand Slams in the process. They will be joined by the likes of Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton at the season-ending championships. Today, we will take a look at the scenarios for both players to earn the top position.

Alcaraz has won an unimaginable eight titles this year. The 22-year-old was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, after which he bolstered his confidence by reigning supreme in Rotterdam. Between April and September, the current World No. 1 went through a stretch of teaching nine straight tour-level finals – winning seven of them. However, he let Sinner back into the race with a Round of 32 exit at the recently concluded Paris Masters.

Capitalizing on his rival’s minor hiccup, Sinner captured his fifth title of the campaign at Paris Bercy. Prior to this, he also completed championship runs at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, China Open and Vienna Open. At the age of 24, Sinner has already won four Grand Slams and been atop the ATP Rankings for 65 weeks. Yet, he will need to ensure no further glitches to his 53-6 record in order to secure the No. 1 standing over Alcaraz.

How Can Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner Finish 2025 as World No. 1?

For the second year in a row, Sincaraz has dominated the circuit. The two superstars of the next generation have won the last eight majors, and share 47 trophies between them. As a result, it is only fitting that the next chapter in their rivalry is written at the season-ending championships – in the race for the year-end No. 1 ranking. This tantalizing tournament will determine who goes into the 2026 season with the ultimate bragging rights.

Ahead of Turin, Alcaraz needs 450+ points to finish as the year-end No. 1. The competitors at the Nitto ATP Finals can earn 1,500 points in total. There are 200 points up for grabs for every victory at the round robin stage. Coming to the semifinals and final, the win is worth 400 points and 500 points respectively. Keeping this in mind, let’s take a look at how both players can finish the year as World No. 1:

Carlos Alcaraz:

  • Can secure the ranking by reaching the final.
  • Can guarantee the position by winning all three round-robin matches.

Jannik Sinner:

  • Must defend his ATP Finals championship.
  • Hope that Alcaraz does not reach the final, and loses at least one round-robin match.

The 2025 Nitto ATP Finals begins on 9 November, with the final set to take place on 16 November.
