Carlos Alcaraz Crushes Jannik Sinner in Straight Sets to Clinch Maiden Italian Open

Following the maiden Rome title, Carlos Alcaraz now takes a 7-4 lead against Jannik Sinner in the ATP Head2Head record.

Carlos Alcaraz spoiled the return of World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in ATP Masters Final with a 7-6, 6-1 victory in the final of the 2025 Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Sunday. With this triumph, the Spaniard ended Sinner’s 26-match unbeaten streak and won his 7th Masters-1000 Title. Carlos Alcaraz has now won all three clay court Masters 1000 events and Roland Garros, completing the Clay Crown.

Alcaraz improved his record to 7-1 in the Masters 1000 final and it was his record 26th win on Tour this year, most by any player. As a scintillating rivalry got its newest chapter, the Spaniard proved why he is a best player on clay court. The reigning Roland Garros champion won his first title in Rome and become the first player to beat Sinner since October 2024.

Carlos Alcaraz ruthlessly dominates Sinner to win the 2025 Rome Masters

The four-time major champion, Carlos Alcaraz dismantled Jannik Sinner in one-sided final at Rome. The match was delayed after one of the finest men’s doubles finals at Italian Open but it started with a bang. Both players fought hard in the opening set. Carlos ended Sinner’s 24 successive sets winning streak against top 10. Highest streak is John McEnroe with 28 which won was broken by Ivan Lendl.

The first set went into tiebreaker after Jannik Sinner’s late effort. The Spaniard took an early 3-0 lead in the tiebreaker, winning on Sinner’s first serve. The Italian ace came back and reduced the deficit to 3-2 before Alcaraz’s double fault. In the end, Carlos stretched to get one last return and secured a narrow first set win. The second set was one-way traffic in favor of the Spaniard and Alcaraz crushed the 2025 Australian Open champion 6-1 in the second set to take the glory at Campo Centrale.

“I am just really happy to get my first Rome. I am hoping it will not be the last one,” said Carlos Alcaraz after the win. “All eyes are on Paris now. Everyone is really focused. Beating Jannik, a win in Rome, both things mixed together give you a great confidence ahead of Paris.

Jannik Sinner loses way after competitive first set

Jannik Sinner couldn’t hold the nerves throughout the game. He was giving tough fight to Carlos in the opening set and it also went into the tiebreaker but Alcaraz had the final laugh. In second set, Alcaraz looked more dominant and was on the verge of winning the set without losing a single game. However, Sinner showed resilience in the end to stretch the game.

Alcaraz had two break points and Sinner rescued the first. The World No. 1 forced deuce with the next but Alcaraz took the first advantage and converted one match point to win the Rome Masters. In previous game, Sinner made a comeback win after losing the opening set 1-6 against Tommy Paul but it was Carlos, who didn’t allow any drama for the fans. It was Sinner’s first straight sets loss since 2023.

Following the maiden Rome title, Carlos Alcaraz now takes a 7-4 lead against Jannik Sinner in the ATP Head2Head record. The Spaniard is now on a four-match winning streak against the Italian superstar. On clay court, Alcaraz beat Sinner second time in three meetings. He previously beat him on clay court last year in the Roland Garros semi-final.
