Calgary Flames Recall Adam Klapka Amid Roster Shuffle

Calgary brings back forward Adam Klapka from the AHL as they adjust their lineup for the final stretch of the season.

The Calgary Flames have called up forward Adam Klapka from their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, marking his fifth NHL stint this season. This move also serves as the team’s first of four permitted recalls after the trade deadline.

Klapka was briefly sent back to the AHL last week to ensure his eligibility for the Wranglers Calder Cup Playoff run. After a short wait, the Flames have brought him back to the main roster, where he’s already played 13 games this season, contributing one goal while averaging just over eight minutes of ice time per game.

Since joining the Flames organization as an undrafted free agent in 2022 from Czechia’s Bili Tygri Liberec, Klapka has proven to be a reliable scorer in the AHL. Over three seasons with the Wranglers, he has racked up 97 points in 158 games, including 26 points in 33 games this season. His physical presence, paired with his offensive ability, makes him a valuable depth option.

With the Flames now carrying 22 players on their active roster, including 13 forwards, Klapka may serve as an extra skater for tonight’s crucial matchup against the Vancouver Canucks, a game that could significantly impact Calgary’s playoff hopes.

Looking ahead, Klapka will become a restricted free agent this summer and be eligible for salary arbitration. If he re-signs but doesn’t secure a spot on the NHL roster next season, he must clear waivers before returning to the AHL.
