Caitlin Clark Hit, Shoved, and Fouled in Wild Fever vs. Sun Match, Multiple Players Ejected

Akash Vaishnav

Caitlin Clark took the brunt of physical plays in a chaotic matchup against Connecticut Sun

The Indiana Fever vs. Connecticut Sun showdown turned fiery, with tempers flaring throughout the contest in a tension-filled clash. For the Fever, the game held immense importance as a win would have taken them to the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup finals.

Both teams came out aggressively in the opening quarter, pushing the pace and challenging every possession. Indiana Fever led by 24-23. However, in the first few minutes of the second quarter, things got heated between Caitlin Clark and Jacy Sheldon. The reason for the heated exchange between the two remains unclear, but the tension was visible from their first encounter.

But there were some explicit words exchanged and other players had to step in to seperate the two. Connecticut Sun lost their concentration after the verbal brawl and Fever eventually closed the first half with an eight point lead. Caitlin Clark was leading the score for the Fever.

Jacy Sheldon went after Clark again in the third quarter. This time, Sheldon aggressively waved her hands near Clark’s face, eventually making contact and poking her in the eye. The 25-year-old was in visible pain trying to protest against the dangerous play. Things escalated further when Maria Mabrey shoved Clark to the floor, triggering an all-out brawl on the court.

Caitlin Clark, Marina Mabrey, Tina Charles were given technical fouls while Jacy Sheldon was handed a flagrant foul. Many critics argued that the officials failed to maintain control, allowing the situation to spiral and putting players at risk.

Caitlin Clark Rises After Physical Showdown in Fever vs. Sun Firefight

Caitlin Clark was pumped up after what looked like another scathing physical attack on her during active gameplay. The point guard dropped a game high 20 points. While getting substituted she clapped around and ran toward the other end of the court celebrating the game. By the time Fever already had a 20 point lead.

What followed was another heated clash. As Jacy Sheldon stole the possession and drove towards the other end with dying seconds of the game, Sophie Cunningham fouled her in the paint. Other players got involved as well as a lot of shoving and pushing took place.

Cunningham appeared to retaliate for Sheldon’s earlier hit on Caitlin Clark, delivering a hard foul. Officials issued Cunningham a flagrant 2 penalty that came with an automatic ejection. Jacy Sheldon was also given a technical and ejection. However, the officials’ reaction came too late, failing to prevent the game from boiling over.

I cover NBA at the Playoffs. I specialize in covering breaking news, Previews, in in-depth analysis (breaking down numbers, complex stats, nuances of the game, and converting them into reader-friendly content). Furthermore, I got into the sports media while looking for an entry into the media industry. I love International Relations, and since entry without majoring in the subject was difficult, I got into sports. Now, while majoring in International Relations on one side, I also like covering sports as part of the journey as a young Journalist.
