Bronny James drops career-best 30 points in South Bay Lakers’ loss

Bronny James had his best game for the NBA G League so far on Thursday night when he played for the Los Angeles Lakers rookies.

James scored 30 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished two assists, recorded a steal, and blocked a shot while playing 25 minutes of the South Bay Lakers’ 106-100 loss to the Valley Suns. It was his G League road debut, and he was 13-for-23 overall, including 3-for-9 on 3-pointers.

His 30-point performance came a game after he established a new career high by scoring 16 points in 22 minutes in a 119-111 win against the San Diego Clippers on Dec. 7.

This breakout performance marked the second milestone for James, who has faced limited opportunities and injuries during his rookie season. He was the 55th player to be drafted in June and has played in seven NBA games this year, averaging less than three minutes per game.

LeBron James to sit out second consecutive game due to left foot soreness

LeBron James has been ruled out for the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night (8 p.m. ET, NBA League Pass) due to soreness in his left foot. This will be his second consecutive game on the sidelines.

The Lakers, who return to action after a four-day break, announced the news on Thursday. Head coach JJ Redick mentioned earlier this week that James was away from the team for “personal reasons,” but it’s uncertain if he will travel to Minnesota. The Lakers’ next game is at home against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.

James, who is in his record-tying 22nd NBA season, missed his first game of the season last Sunday when the Lakers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers. That absence was also due to his foot issue.

So far this season, James is averaging 23.0 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.0 rebounds for the Lakers, who have a 13-11 record but have struggled recently, losing seven of their last 10 games after a strong 10-4 start.

On a positive note, the Lakers have upgraded Austin Reaves to questionable for Friday’s game. Reaves has missed the last five games with a pelvic bruise. Anthony Davis, dealing with left plantar fasciitis, is listed as probable.
