Brian Windhorst revealed the strongest teammate that LeBron James has had in his career.
ESPN commentator Brian Windhorst named the best teammate LeBron James has had in his legendary career. Speaking on his podcast, Windhorst revealed that while James shared a great chemistry with multiple players including Dwayne Wade and Anthony Davis in the last 22 years of his legendary NBA career, one name stood out. According to Windhorst, that player is none other than Kyrie Irving.
Speaking on the Hoop Collective, the senior commentator said that no other player was as compatible as Kyrie Irving. “In my opinion, the best, most compatible teammate LeBron has ever had is Kyrie,” the sports writer said. “There were moments where he and Wade were transcendent, there were moments where he and AD were impossible to deal with. The guy who he played with who best fit his skill set was Kyrie, because you need a guy who can handle the ball that is also awesome off the ball.”
James, who is set to enter the 23rd year, has played with various legends across his NBA career. Some of those names include icons such as Shaquille O’Neal, Dwayne Wade, Luka Doncic, and more. Over the years, success varied but not many players ended up developing a bond with the four-time NBA champion than Irving. While they both shared a short stint on the same team, Irving is said to be the strongest teammate James has ever had.
They both made a great team as Irving was known for controlling the offense, enabling James to play off the ball and maximize his movement. Moreover, Irving’s ability to take the backseat role offensively enabled ‘King’ James to step up when needed while ensuring him of an opportunity to score.
Veteran sports journalist Skip Bayless accused LeBron James of faking an injury, labeling it a ‘sympathy-gaining’ stint. James, 40, will miss the start of the 2025-26 season due to a persistent sciatica, and is expected to take a patient approach for the recovery of his injury. However, the veteran sports analyst lashed out at the four-time NBA champion and said that he is not injured, and only pretending.
“I told you this was coming,” Bayless said. “LeBron James isn’t hurting. He’s pouting, he’s rebelling, he’s going little kid on the Los Angeles Lakers for the way they have treated or mistreated him in his view. He’s saying, ‘Ok, if Luka is the man, if I am not in your plans, then I will basically take my basketball and go home.’”
“We were told as training camp opened that he had nerve irritation in his glute and that could translate into the current sciatica. But LeBron and his team are brilliant at creating injury excuses. Nobody in the history of history has ever been more clever and deceitful in faking and creating and exaggerating injuries than LeBron James and his camp.”
While Bayless insists that James has done this for attention, the Lakers cannot afford to lose their star player. With new additions including Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton joining the roster, the Lakers will still need James’ experience and leadership to sail through the season and emerge as solid contenders.
