The 76ers visit TD Garden to lock horns with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.
The Boston Celtics will be up against the Philadelphia 76ers for their regular-season opener on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The Celtics finished the NBA 2024-25 campaign with a 61-21 win-loss record in the East. While they were hoping to repeat their previous season’s heroics, Jayson Tatum’s injury shattered their dreams.

The Celtics superstar suffered an Achilles injury in the Eastern Conference semifinal loss to the New York Knicks. He is expected to miss most, if not all, of this season. Apart from him, they parted ways with Al Horford, Luke Kornet, and Kristaps Porzingis during the offseason. However, there are familiar names in the roster including Derrick White, Sam Hauser, and Jordan Walsh.
The Philadelphia 76ers, on the other hand, had a miserable 2024-25 season with a 24-58 win-loss record. However, they will aim to wipe the slate clean and move forward hoping for a better campaign. They have an impactful roster featuring the trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey.
But they need to be in the best of health throughout the season as the Sixers aim for contention. If they stay healthy and the new additions that they made play their roles, there is a chance for the 76ers to break through in the East.
As both teams aim for a favorable start to the 2025-26 campaign, let’s go through their injury reports as well as expected starting lineups for the Wednesday-night game.
| PLAYER | POSITION | INJURY | STATUS |
| Jaylen Brown | SF | Hamstring | QUESTIONABLE |
| Jayson Tatum | PF | Achilles | OUT |
The Celtics have listed Jaylen Brown as questionable for their first game of the 2025-26 season on Wednesday. Brown suffered a hamstring injury during a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors and participated in two full practices. Jayson Tatum, on the other hand, will likely be out of action for most, if not all, of the current season.
| PLAYER | POSITION | INJURY | STATUS |
| Paul George | SF | Knee | Out |
| Trendon Watford | PF | Hamstring | Out |
| Jared McCain | SG | Thumb | Out |
Philadelphia will be without veteran forward Paul George, who is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery performed during the offseason. He didn’t play in any preseason games but participated fully in practice Sunday. McCain and Watford will be out with right thumb surgery recovery and hamstring tightness, respectively.
