Boston Celtics Most Likely to Take Trade Calls on Jrue Holiday After Jayson Tatum’s Season-Ending Injury

Are the Boston Celtics going to trade Jrue Holiday?

Boston Celtics, the 2024 NBA Champions, are most likely to take trade calls on their veteran starter, Jrue Holiday this summer. The Celtics, who were heavy favorites to go all the way, had a very unexpected ending to their campaign. One of the strongest teams in the season, they were knocked out by the New York Knicks in six games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The primary reason for their early exit was inconsistent play and injuries, including that of star Jason Tatum. The six-time NBA All-Star sustained an ACL injury in Game 4 against the Knicks. The injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He is most likely to be out until at least the second half of the next season. Amid all the chaos, the Celtics are falling short of expectations with their champion squad, and hence are likely to make a few changes in the roster.

While there was no confirmation earlier, the latest report by NBA insider Jake Fischer suggests that the Celtics are “most definitely listening on [trade] calls for Jrue Holiday.” Holiday has been one of the best backcourt defenders in the league. He finished the recent past season with an average of 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per contest. He is headed into the second season of his four-year $134 million contract.

Jrue Holiday’s Campaign with the Boston Celtics

Holiday was traded to the Portland Trailblazers in a multi-team deal in September 2023. However, a few days later, he was traded to the Celtics a few days later. Later in April 2024, he signed a four-year deal worth $135 million with the reigning champions with a guaranteed sum of $100 million.

In his first year with the team, Holiday averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the side, and played a key role in guiding them to their 18th championship.

In his second season, averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 points and 3.9 assists per game with the Celtics. He missed a few games in the season with multiple injuries. During the 2024-25 season, Holiday was averaging 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
