Bilhal Kone and Justin Walley Injury Updates – What Happened to Ravens’ and Colts’ Rookies Bilhal Kone and Justin Walley?

Devavrat Kulkarni

The Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts both suffered key losses for the season in their first preseason game against one another. Unfortunately for both teams, the injuries took place to young rookies looking to put in good performances to be in the conversation for a starting spot on the team.

Rookie Kone Was Competing for a Starting CB Role

Ravens’ cornerback Bilhal Kone suffered a torn ligament in the knee, as per the update provided by head coach John Harbaugh. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old will end up missing his entire rookie season.

Kone was trying to secure one of the final spots in the Ravens’ cornerback room prior to his injury. The horrific injury took place just seconds before the end of the first quarter when the defensive back was covering a pass thrown his way.

Upon coming down, he immediately grabbed his knee as teammates quickly called for the trainers after seeing him in quite a bit of pain. Kone was then carted off the field after training staff placed his leg in an air cast.

Head coach John Harbaugh had some comforting words for his rookie after meeting him in the locker room.

“Even seeing him in the locker room just now is really hard. Very hard. But I told him the sun will come up tomorrow. You’ll get this taken care of. You’ll be rehabbing, you’re part of our team, and you’ll be back. So it’s just not on the time that you hope for.”

Justin Walley Was Showing Promise in Training Camp

Just a couple of days earlier, Colts’ cornerback Justin Walley also suffered a gruesome injury, which has since been confirmed to be a torn ACL, as per head coach Shane Steichen.

Walley’s injury took place during their joint practice session with the Ravens. It is exceptionally sad as he was one of the standout rookies on the team and was in line for a starting corner role before the injury.

The third-round pick from this year’s draft was turning heads in practice and impressed the Colts’ coaches with his athleticism and football instincts as he gradually made his way to first-team reps.

Unfortunately, the season for both these rookies is now over, even before they could participate in their first game as professional players. Having said that, it is not the end of the road for either of them, but yes, both will have to endure plenty of hard work before they can begin their journeys in the NFL.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
