The German champions edged a thrilling contest 4-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. Flamengo entered the match on an impressive 11-match unbeaten run but were stunned when Bayern took control of the match early on.

Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar inadvertently turned Joshua Kimmich’s corner into his own net just six minutes in. Moments later, England captain Harry Kane rifled home Bayern’s second from distance, taking his season tally to 41 goals across all competitions. Gerson pulled one back for Flamengo with a rasping strike but Leon Goretzka restored Bayern’s cushion with a long-range effort that caught goalkeeper Agustin Rossi wrongfooted.

The Brazilians threatened a comeback after Jorginho converted a penalty, following a handball by Michael Olise. However, in-form Kane struck again with 18 minutes to go and his strike sealed the victory for the German champions.

Bayern’s triumph sets up a mouth-watering clash with PSG, who are also in blistering form and eager to add the Club World Cup to their trophy cabinet after a treble-winning season. The quarter-final will see two European heavyweights collide with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
