Barcelona Injury Update: Hansi Flick Shares Latest on Pedri, Lamine Yamal and More

Barcelona are approaching their return to Spotify Camp Nou with optimism. But they’re also handling a long list of fitness concerns that continue to shape Hansi Flick’s squad options. Ahead of the clash against Athletic Club, the manager addressed several key absences.

He also discussed the gradual return of important names as the team is entering a tightly packed stretch of nine fixtures. Much of the attention is centred around Marcus Rashford. His sudden fever kept him off the training pitch for two consecutive days.

Flick admitted that the forward’s availability is doubtful. He noted that such setbacks are part of navigating a demanding schedule. In contrast, Raphinha’s return offers a timely boost. He spent weeks on the sidelines with a stubborn hamstring problem. Now the Brazilian is finally expected to play.

Albeit it will be limited minutes. Even so, it will mark his first appearance since September. Pedri’s situation also remains delicate. He has made visible progress from a muscular injury. Still, he continues to train individually, with the club intent on avoiding any rush that could cause a setback.

Flick emphasised caution. He reiterated that the midfielder’s return is close but not immediate. A Champions League trip to Chelsea is looming. Hence, his availability remains uncertain. Another encouraging update involved Joan Garcia. The trusted goalkeeper became the first choice since joining this season.

However, Garcia suffered a knee issue that kept him out since late September. He will be returning as well. His return comes at a crucial moment, with captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen still unavailable following his back surgery. He is expected to remain sidelined for a longer period.

Barcelona Focus on Lamine Yamal Workload Management

Lamine Yamal’s condition prompted further discussion after recent controversy surrounding his withdrawal from Spain duty. Flick defended the club’s decisions. He mentioned the teenager’s professionalism and steady recovery from a groin issue. He acknowledged the natural fluctuations in a young player’s form.

Still, he made it clear that both Barcelona and the national team share the responsibility of managing his workload. Marc Casado is also nearing full readiness after missing the previous match through groin discomfort. He is expected to feature against Athletic.

Meanwhile, Barcelona must cope without Frenkie de Jong, who will serve out a suspension after his dismissal before the international break. Despite these challenges, Flick insisted that the squad remains focused. They have the opportunity to briefly climb to the top of La Liga. So, lining up the best XI is a crucial task.
