The 2025 Japan Open Tennis Championships will take place between 24 September to 30 September at the Ariake Tennis Forest Park in Tokyo, Japan. Some of the world’s best players – including World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and former US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz – will take part in the ATP-500 event. The tournament was established in 1972, and has been a longstanding part of the Asian swing on the men’s circuit.

While the main draw spans across a week, the qualifiers will be played on 22 September and 23 September. It is a men’s competition featuring 32 singles main draw entrants and 16 doubles pairs. The matches are played on outdoor hard courts and there is a prize money of over $416K for the winner of the Japan Open.

Arthur Fils of France is the defending champion at the 2025 Japan Open Tennis Championships. Unfortunately, the 21-year-old will not be competing at this year’s event due to an injury. Coming to men’s doubles, the British pairing of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool beat Ariel Behar and Robert Galloway in the 2024 final to be crowned champions.

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz will open his account against Sebastian Baez of Argentina. The Spaniard has a 2-0 head-to-head record against the 24-year-old so far. He is likely to face Zizou Bergs in the Round of 16, before a potential blockbuster encounter vs Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. ‘Carlitos’ has Casper Ruud or Denis Shapovalov to deal with in the semifinal stage, before a possible Laver Cup rematch against Taylor Fritz in the final.

Speaking of Fritz, the American World No. 5 has a challenging Round of 32 match-up against Gabriel Diallo. The 23-year-old Canadian has been ranked within the Top-35 for an extended period now. Provided he gets past this hurdle, his next two opponents on paper are Nuno Borges and fifth seed Tomas Machac. While Fritz’s semifinal face-off could be against either Holger Rune or Ugo Humbert, the mighty World No. 1 stands in his path of lifting the trophy in Tokyo.
