Atlanta Hawks vs Detroit Pistons Preview

The Hawks are elite offensively but have defensive issues

The Hawks enter the game after a 9-point loss against the New York Knicks despite a 27-point performance by Trae Young. This loss broke a three-game winning streak and the Hawks now have a 3-5 record in January. Their offense has been stellar as they have tallied 117 points per game(6th best) and their bench has contributed 43.6 PPG(2nd). But defense has been a huge issue for Young and Co. as they have given up 119 PPG(3rd worst). Their perimeter defense has been abysmal and they allow 15 threes per game which is the worst effort in the league. Young isn’t a major defensive stopper and two-way guard Dyson Daniels has to carry too much load on defense.

The Pistons have laid a promising foundation

The Pistons come into this contest after a 11-point win against the Houston Rockets as Cade Cunningham erupted for 32 points. This win helped them break a two-game losing streak and would have boosted their confidence since the Rockets are the second-best team in the West. The Pistons are having their best season in more than half a decade, largely because of Cunningham’s incredible all-around play. Veterans Malik Beasley, Tobias Harris, and Tim Hardaway Jr. have changed the team’s complexion whereas youngsters Jalen Duren and Jaden Ivey have been superb sparkplugs.

Atlanta Hawks vs Detroit Pistons– Final Prediction and Additional Information

The Hawks are a tremendous offensive-rebounding team(7th with 12.4 ORPG), meanwhile, the Pistons are brilliant at denying offensive rebounds(4th in opponents RPG allowed). It is a crucial component of this battle, and the Pistons can also eke out a slight advantage at the Point Guard spot with Cade Cunningham overpowering Trae Young. Thus, they may be able to steal one away from the Hawks here. The total can go past 230 points but below 245 points with Pistons notching a 3+ points win.

I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
