Real Madrid will visit the Emirates Stadium for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal. The Los Blancos after a nervy shoot win against Atletico Madrid come in as the favourites to win the competition. Moreover, Carlo Ancelotti and his side will go to England for the second time after the triumph at Etihad earlier this season.

The Gunners beat PSV 9-3 on aggregate to reach the quarterfinals. Coming in with a commanding victory could prove important for Arsenal. Beating Real Madrid in a contest over two legs will be a mountain to climb for Mikel Arteta. Securing an home advantage that can be taken to the second leg will be termed important.

“Yeah, looks like it. We have another training session this afternoon, but Ben finished the game. We had to stop him over time because he hasn’t played much football, but he was fine after the game. “He’s in a much better place. Gradually, we have built his minutes in the last six or seven days. He scored with that well and he’s in a good place to be able to be used.”

Arteta is expected to use Mikel Merino upfront in absence of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. With his strikers out since over a month, Arsenal has stocked to their default 4-3-3 formation in recent weeks.

Following the absence of Raul Asencio against Valencia, Ancelotti provided an update. He expressed that the centre-back was benched for recovery purposes. Moreover, first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will also be back in the lineup after missing three crucial clashes due to a thigh injury.

Mentioning how injuries haven’t allowed him to rotate his squad this season, the Italian manager said:

“The other day we gave Asencio a rest because he was exhausted after the Real Sociedad game. But the fact that we’ve had all the injuries hasn’t allowed us to make all the necessary rotations. But, having said that, the team is in good physical condition, and tomorrow we’ll be able to play an intense game.”

Real Madrid also confirmed the return of Dani Ceballos and Ferland Mendy to training last week. Ancelotti will be expected to stick to his 4-3-3 formation having the world class attacking prowess at this service.
