PSG Lodges UEFA Complaint Against Arsenal After a Row Erupts Over Ticket Allocation for Match at the Emirates Stadium.

Tensions are rising on and off the pitch between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain ahead of their Champions League semi-final showdown at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, April 29. As per reports from the French newspaper, L’Equipe, PSG have officially filed a complaint to UEFA.

The complaint has been about what they perceive as a breach of ticketing regulations by the Gunners. According to L’Equipe, PSG were informed that they would receive only 2500 tickets for their travelling supporters. This number is 500 fewer than the 3000 they were granted during their last visit to the Emirates in October.

That was a group stage match that Arsenal won by a 2-0 margin. And the away seat allocation in that match was as per UEFA guidelines. That specific rule requires host clubs to allocate 5% of stadium capacity to away fans. This rule for the Emirates translates to roughly 3,000 seats. PSG have argued that Arsenal’s reduction undermines the spirit of fair play.

Security Concerns Cited by Arsenal

Arsenal have justified the decision by citing “security concerns,” particularly surrounding the London Marathon. The marathon takes place just two days before the semi-final. Local authorities, including the Safety Advisory Group, are believed to have advised the club on crowd control measures.

This is a repeat of a previous ticketing dispute that happened in their match against Manchester United earlier this season. However, PSG are not satisfied with the explanation. As per reports, PSG are not backing down in this case.

Reportedly, they will keep fighting to have 3,000 Parisians at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday. However, as of now, the situation is not going in their favour. The club has also hinted at exploring “other avenues of appeal” if UEFA does not intervene in time.

Fan Frustration Grows as Kickoff Nears

Added to the away tickets allocation feud, there’s also been concerns regarding the delay in ticket availability. As per reports from France Bleu, tickets for PSG fans were not immediately made available. This left many supporters uncertain about their travel plans only days before the fixture.

Eventually, an email was sent out by the club on Thursday with instructions for purchase. However, expectedly, the demand is expected to far outstrip supply. The same happened previously, during an FA Cup tie in January, the club faced criticism for reducing Manchester United’s away allocation. It was decided to 8000 from 9000 tickets citing similar safety concerns.
